The Dow Chemical Co. was recognized on Thursday for being named to the Thomson Reuters 2012 Top 100 Global Innovator list.
The list recognizes the most innovative companies in the world, based on four principle criteria: patent approval success rate, global reach of patent portfolio, patent influence in literature citations and overall patent volume. Dow has been on the list for two consecutive years, the latest being announced last December.
On Thursday, Thomson Reuters employees presented Dow employees with the award and a trophy.
Dow’s number of active patents, newly granted U.S. patents and royalties from patents and technology were all up in 2012 compared to 2011.
In recent years, the company has promoted its ability to connect chemistry and innovation with the principles of sustainability to help address many of the world’s most challenging problems.
A.N. Sreeram, Dow corporate vice president of research and development, said the company’s innovation pipeline is focused on opportunities in high-return, technology-rich sectors where near-term rewards are within reach.
